The daily trick this GP uses to take care of her mental health

From women's wellness to mental health and disease prevention, GP Dr Tosin Sotubo is committed to empowering a healthier society – and her passion shows. Through her popular website and Instagram channel @mindbodydoctor, she busts health myths, shares important, evidence-based information and gets people talking about the issues that truly matter. That's why we were thrilled to discover Dr Tosin is also a loyal By Sarah London fan, naming our Raspberry Seed Cleansing Oil part of her essential 'wellness toolkit.'

Here, we caught up with Dr Tosin to discuss the importance of looking after our mind as well as our body.

What tips do you have for prioritising mental health?

Journaling is a really important part of my daily routine. It gives me the space and time to be still with my thoughts and reflect. My days can be pretty hectic and this is often the one time of the day I can be fully in relaxation mode so this time is invaluable for me.

Secondly, keeping active is a big part of taking care of my mental and physical wellbeing. Even when I don’t feel like doing any exercise I always felt better for it afterwards. It’s a reminder of how important activity is for us, not just for your physical health but just as much for our mental health too.

How do you care for your skin?

'I've always had sensitive skin so experimenting with different products and ranges isn’t for me – once I’ve found something that works, I stick with it. By Sarah London is my current obsession – I love their Raspberry Seed Cleansing Oil. Blended with five cold-pressed plant oils, it transforms into a cleansing milk on contact with water, all without disrupting your skin's natural pH balance,' Dr Tosin revealed in an interview with SheerLuxe.

How do you bring self-care into your day as a busy GP?

I always say 'find something you enjoy and do a little bit of it every day.' This can be anything from exercise, painting, going for walks, anything that brings you joy.

Sleep is also so important. Be intentional about your sleeping regime. This means making sure you’re in bed at a certain time with as little disturbance as possible. So, switching off your phone and making sure your mind is as switched off from the day’s activities as much as possible.

What's the best pick-me up to beat any summer blues?

It’s really important to stay connected with people. Sometimes we have to be intentional about reaching out to friends and loved ones. Social interaction is such a huge part of our daily wellbeing.
