How important is Pilates to you?

I practiced Pilates for many years prior to becoming an instructor. Although I loved how it made me feel, I never truly appreciated its impact and effects until I began introducing clients to the discipline. It is an integral part of my life now, not only because it is my job but the principles of the movements carry through all other styles of exercise I do. The benefits are definitely apparent.

It's fair to say, the fundamentals of Pilates are important to everyone.  Improving the balance of strength and flexibility, in muscles around joints has profound benefits.  The posture is improved and the body is less prone to injury over the long term. Pilates addresses this in a very technical, mindful way.  I believe everyone should learn and integrate Pilates into their workout regime - even if it’s just once a week. It is a great way to improve mobility, stability, spinal health and overall body awareness.

How do you find your daily source of balance and wellness?

My Mum is a Naturopath so I had a good start.  From day one I learned the food we eat and topical products we use are of the highest importance when it comes to balanced health. I strive to make great food choices wherever I can. Of course, exercise and physical well-being are a huge part of my life too. I am constantly striving for better balance as I often work very long hours and stress levels rise.

I’ve learned we can all change habits, simply by making conscious choices.  The new choices actually become the habit after a time and the benefits simply follow automatically.

What are some of your favourite ways to wind down?

Brunch with great coffee and the papers. It’s a time when I really unplug and just savour the time off, the food and a good chat.

It’s because of this that I began my Pilates Brunch events. Bringing a group of like minded people together to kick start their weekend with a Pilates class followed by a brunch… two of my favourite things.

Who doesn’t like an indulgent lazy brunch with nice people right?
