Our new Ally Blemish Recovery Oil is now here and our upcycled hemp seed oil is the hero ingredient. What are the skin benefits of hemp oil?

Hemp plays a vital role in nourishing and strengthening the skin barrier, due to its high fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid content which is the most prevalent fatty acid in our upcycled hemp seed oil.

Linoleic acid can significantly benefit acne-prone skin and help to balance the skin’s natural sebum levels. Acne-prone skins tend to have low levels of linoleic acid in their skin surface. Using our Ally Blemish Recovery Oil, which is high in linoleic acid, will work to nourish and protect the skin without being too heavy or clogging pores.

Our hemp oil contains a standardised level of natural CBD (cannadibiol) content and the hemp variety we use, Finola, contains the highest level of CBD in the seeds. While hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the plant, CBD oil is made using the leaves, stalks and flowers which have higher concentrations of CBD. The small amount of CBD in our hemp seed oil won't make you high; it's the non-intoxicating component of hemp plants and doesn't have the mind-altering properties of hemp's tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content. Research has indicated that cannabinoids have a potential role in treatments for several inflammatory skin conditions, including acne and skin redness.

Our upcycled hemp seed oil contains other skin-enhancing cannabinoids (naturally occurring compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plant) which contribute to the overall beneficial effects of the hemp oil for skin, including: high levels of essential fatty acids, in addition to flavonoids, terpenoids and other phenolics. All of these active compounds work in synergy to provide essential nourishment and numerous anti-inflammatory benefits for the skin. By counteracting the damage caused by free radicals and reducing the appearance of inflammation, skin dullness and redness is diminished.

How does upcycled hemp contain more antioxidants?

Not all hemp seed oils are created equally. Hemp seed oil can be treated as a commodity and stored for long periods, heated or exposed to oxygen or light before it makes it makes its way into a product.

Our supply chain is short and controlled at every stage so we can make sure that the antioxidants are preserved. Also, our seeds were originally grown for food use so are top quality from the outset.

Our upcycled hemp seeds were tested to measure the antioxidant levels, using the TE level which stands for the trolox equivalents. Our upcycled hemp seed oil had the highest value of 42.6 umolTE/g oil with a significantly higher antioxidant capacity compared with standard hemp seed oil, of 28 umolTE/g - that's 52% more antioxidants in our upycled hemp seed oil, found in our Hemp-Infused Blemish Recovery Oil, to build your skin's resilience and natural defences to blemishes and hormonal acne.

How is our hemp oil sustainably sourced?

Our 100% upcycled hemp seed oil is an innovative and sustainably sourced ingredient that is saved from landfill. The hemp seeds are grown and harvested in the UK by hand. A large proportion of these seeds are rejected as they don't meet the specification for food use. We rescue the nutrient-rich seeds from going to waste and landfill. And then cold-press them into the oil we use. No new materials created; no existing resources wasted. The plant seeds are upcycled into a high quality, natural and sustainable hemp seed oil which we then use in our Ally Blemish Recovery Oil. You can see above the hemp plant we use growing naturally among the daisies in the south of the UK.
