Benefits of Jojoba Oil For Your skin

Your skin's microbiome can feel like the wild west if you have blemish-prone, oily or sensitive skin. It's where there is a delicate balancing act between good and bad bacteria, where tipping the scales in the direction of bad bacteria can lead to outbreaks and angry skin.

For oily or blemish-prone skin, using skincare with plant based ingredients that help to balance the skin's microbiome and sebum levels is key.

We sourced organic jojoba oil for its balancing, strong antioxidant and skin protection properties for our Ally Blemish Recovery Oil. This new recovery oil has been carefully curated to help skin recover using the finest, sustainable, plant-based ingredients, including upcycled hemp seed oil, papaya fruit enzyme and organic jojoba oil.

What is the skin microbiome?

The skin is a complex and dynamic ecosystem that is inhabited by bacteria, archaea, fungi and viruses. These microbes are collectively known as the skin microbiota; some are good (commensal bacteria) and some are bad (pathogenic bacteria).

The bacteria in the microbiome help regulate our immune system, protect against other bacteria that cause disease, and produce vitamins including B12 (helps keep the body's nerve and blood cells healthy) and vitamin K (needed for blood clotting and healthy bones).

Internal and external factors can change your skin’s microbiota, including diet, genetic predisposition, age, hygiene and lifestyle choices, which can all cause unbalanced skin conditions.

How can Jojoba Oil benefit the skin?

Organic jojoba oil is actually a protective liquid wax whose molecular structure is very similar to our own skin oil (sebum); or to use the scientific phrase, it has a "sebum mimetic composition".

Where there is barrier disruption and inflammation in the skin, such is the case for acne and blemish-prone skin, the skin's microbiome becomes unbalanced. Organic jojoba oil has been shown to increase the levels of good bacteria on the skin to help restore the skin's natural balance, promoting healthy, glowing skin. Making it an ideal plant-based ingredient for blemish-prone skin.

Organic jojoba oil is also particularly suitable for those with sensitive skin, including psoriasis and eczema, because of its natural and gentle qualities. The Vitamin E and B-complex vitamins in organic jojoba oil help the skin to repair too.

How does Jojoba Oil make oily skin better?

Organic jojoba oil is the plant-based oil to use in your skincare if you have oily skin or a tendency towards mild acne. It is well documented that jojoba oil reduces the sebum production in oily skins and reduces pore size too. It improves the skin's complexion by reducing visible redness and increasing the skin's natural glow.

Our cold-pressed organic jojoba oil is a desert grown adaptogen and is sustainably sourced from Arizona and Argentina. It has low water requirements and as it's grown to certified-organic standards, no pesticides are used and there are no GMOs.

How do I use the Hemp-Infused Blemish Recovery Oil?

The organic jojoba oil is blended in our Ally Blemish Recovery Oil to help reduce the level of sebum your skin naturally produces and bring the skin’s microbiome into balance. To use, apply a few drops to clean, damp skin morning and night as needed to soothe and calm irritated skin. You can then return to using the Hero Facial Oil as normal when skin has improved.
