How to glow this spring

As the (long) winter season comes to an end, the arrival of spring brings joy but also challenges if you're struggling with stressed, sensitive skin. The changing weather conditions, humidity levels, and exposure to the sun can wreak havoc on your skin.

Do not fear - with the right skincare routine, you can protect your sensitive skin and keep it healthy and glowing throughout the spring season.

We've rounded up our top tips on how to care for sensitive skin during the spring season, so let's dive straight in.

Cleanse gently

The first step to caring for sensitive skin and encouraging a natural glow is to cleanse your skin gently. Avoid using harsh soaps, foaming cleansers or face washes that can strip your skin of its natural oils. Instead, opt for a gentle cleanser that contains natural ingredients like hydrating prebiotic inulin, niacinamide and mango butter. These plant actives are all found in our Balancer Cream Cleanser and have anti-inflammatory properties that soothe and calm sensitive skin, while removing daily dirt and impurities.

Exfoliate with caution

Exfoliation can trigger further disruption in the skin barrier if you have sensitive, stressed skin - and over-exfoliating can cause redness, irritation, and even breakouts. One option is to look for natural exfoliants like sugar, oatmeal, or jojoba beads, which are gentle on the skin and don't cause irritation.

Alternatively, you can skip using an exfoliator and instead choose a facial cleansing product with antimicrobial and exfoliant properties, like our Ally Recovery Facial Oil, which effectively revives congested, blemish prone skin thanks to papaya fruit enzymes which naturally remove excess oil and rebalance the skin.

Top up hydration

Hydration is essential for all skin types, but it's especially important for sensitive, stressed skin. During the spring season, the air can be dry, which can cause your skin to become dehydrated. To prevent this, moisturize your skin daily using our Reviver Hydrating Mist alongside the Hero Facial Oil to add much needed antioxidants and vitamins to nourish and protect the skin. For an extra moisture boost, add our hyaluronic acid and aloe leaf extract-infused Saviour Moisture Mask to your skincare routine a couple of times a week, getting to work in just 10 minutes.

Avoid fragrance

Fragrances can be a source of irritation for sensitive skin, especially during the spring season when allergies are common. To avoid this, choose skincare products that are fragrance-free. You can take comfort knowing that the full By Sarah collection is Dermatologically Tested, suitable for the most sensitive skin and formulated without any ingredients known to cause irritation.

Use broad-spectrum sunscreen

As the weather gets warmer, it's essential to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. However, many sunscreens contain harsh chemicals that can irritate sensitive, stressed skin, or simply don't provide enough protection.

For sensitive skin, we recommend looking for a broad-spectrum, fragrance-free formula that's dermatologically tested, like our Serene Daily SPF 50+. This means your skin is protected from all harmful UV rays whilst also preventing any irritation from essential oils or added fragrances.

Sensitive skin also benefits from extra hydration. Look for a sunscreen that includes moisturising ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides to help maintain skin moisture and support skin barrier function. For an extra hydration boost, try using the Reviver Hydrating Mist in your routine - perfect for repopulating your skin's microbiome and keeping your skin hydrated throughout the day.

Stay hydrated

Finally, staying hydrated is essential for maintaining healthy skin, especially during the spring season when the weather can be dry. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. You can also eat water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, and celery to keep your skin healthy and glowing. Start your day with a morning smoothie and our Vitamin C+E Booster to support a natural glow on the inside and out.

The takeaway? To care for sensitive, stressed skin during the spring season look for a natural skincare routine that is gentle and nourishing. Consistency is key to enjoy the best results and, by following these tips, you can protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun, keep it hydrated, and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion throughout the season. Remember to always choose natural skincare products that contain gentle ingredients that work in harmony with your skin's natural pH level.
