A life-changing diagnosis
In February 2012, Lauren, then a law student, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), an aggressive form of cancer. The diagnosis was sudden and overwhelming, plunging her into a gruelling regimen of chemotherapy and, ultimately, a stem cell transplant.
Her sister Sarah, a seasoned marketing professional with a background in beauty, stepped up as a stem cell donor, providing a crucial match that gave Lauren a fighting chance. The transplant was successful, but Lauren faced significant challenges, including graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), which severely affected her skin.
Creating a solution
During this challenging period, Sarah’s expertise in skincare became a lifeline for Lauren. Frustrated by the lack of suitable products for Lauren’s cancer-ravaged skin, Sarah embarked on creating her own formulations. She focused on natural ingredients, avoiding harsh preservatives and essential oils that could exacerbate Lauren’s skin issues.
Her efforts led to the development of By Sarah's inaugural product, the now multi award-winning Hero Facial Oil, made from luxurious plant oils. This commitment to clinically-proven, natural solutions laid the foundation for our By Sarah philosophy.
The birth of By Sarah
By Sarah was officially launched in November 2017. Our core mission is to offer skincare that uses scientifically-backed ingredients without compromising on quality or usability on sensitive skin - an issue that frustrated Sarah during Lauren’s illness.
Our range of products have now expanded into full skincare routines, suitable for all skin types and challenges. Our thousands of happy customers love what we create, particularly those undergoing chemotherapy or dealing with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis or rosacea.
