Vitamin C: Your secret weapon for brightening sensitive skin

Vitamin C – it's so frequently hailed as a health superhero but did you know the ingredient offers unparalleled powers for skin, too? It’s no wonder that it’s hailed as one of the most effective ingredients in the skincare world. But what exactly makes vitamin C so special, and how can you incorporate it into your routine?

Let’s dive into the glowing benefits of this skincare superhero and discover how By Sarah has harnessed its power in a formula that even the most sensitive skin can enjoy.

The antioxidant power of Vitamin C

At the heart of vitamin C’s magic is its role as a potent antioxidant. Antioxidants are vital in the fight against free radicals—those pesky molecules that can cause significant damage to your skin. Free radicals are generated by exposure to environmental aggressors like the sun’s UV rays, pollution, and other harmful factors. Over time, they contribute to premature aging, pigmentation, and a dull complexion.

Vitamin C neutralises these free radicals, effectively acting as your skin’s ultimate defence system. By incorporating vitamin C into your daily routine, you’re providing your skin with a powerful shield that helps to prevent damage and maintain a healthy, youthful glow.

Evens out skin tone and boosts collagen

Beyond its protective qualities, vitamin C is also a game-changer when it comes to improving your skin’s overall appearance. One of the standout benefits of vitamin C is its ability to even out skin tone. It works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase, which is responsible for triggering the production of melanin (the pigment that causes dark spots and uneven skin tone). Regular use of vitamin C can lead to a brighter, more even complexion, with a noticeable reduction in pigmentation and dark spots.

But that’s not all—vitamin C also plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis. Collagen is the protein that gives our skin its structure and support, keeping it firm and plump. As we age, collagen production naturally declines, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C helps to stimulate collagen production, keeping your skin looking youthful and resilient.

Sensitive skin and Vitamin C: A delicate balance

As incredible as vitamin C is, it can be a double-edged sword for those with sensitive skin. The most common form of vitamin C used in skincare, ascorbic acid, can be highly potent, which may lead to irritation, redness, and even breakouts. For sensitive skin types, these side effects can outweigh the benefits, making it a challenging ingredient to incorporate into a daily routine.

This is where By Sarah comes in. Understanding the unparalleled benefits of vitamin C, we’ve been committed to creating a formula that delivers all the glow-inducing power of this superstar ingredient while being gentle enough for sensitive skin. Our Vitamin C+E Booster is designed to be your skin’s morning wake-up call, restoring vitality, brightening your complexion, and tackling dark spots—without any of the irritation.

The science behind our formula

Pure vitamin C can be very unstable, giving it a short life-span, so we’ve formulated our booster with vitamin E to boost efficacy and improve stability. Most vitamin C serums are also highly prone to oxidation which significantly reduces its skin-loving properties. You’ll notice that we use amber glass bottles to house our skincare. This type of glass protects the formulation and slows down any oxidation. Just make sure you store in a cool, dark space and away from direct sunlight.

That important vitamin E also serves another purpose, helping to nourish and soothe the skin while the vitamin C gets to work.

That's alongside:

  • Olive Squalane: a natural emollient that acts in a very similar way to our own skin oils, aiding in improving skin elasticity and encouraging cell regeneration.
  • Grapeseed: high in linoleic acid and vitamin E, this helps skin retain moisture and prevent environmental damage whilst evening out skin tone.
  • Jojoba: containing vitamin B, this plant oil has antioxidant properties to combat cell damage and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Perfect for all skin types.

For the ultimate glow, bundle up and save with our Boosted Glow Up bundle, containing both our Vitamin C + E Booster and our Bakuchiol Booster, harnessing the power of bakuchiol to provide the incredible results of a retinol but without the irritation.
