Lauren on Deliciously's Ella podcast, plus Ella's By Sarah favourites

We are delighted to share that our co-founder Lauren has had the opportunity to join Ella Mills on her Wellness with Ella podcast. In a heartfelt conversation, Lauren opens up about a transformative period of her life when everything changed overnight as she faced extreme isolation whilst undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia. This experience, though incredibly challenging, taught her invaluable lessons about finding blessings, connections, and gratitude even in the darkest of times.

Having a positive outlook during the darkest of times

During the podcast, Lauren discussed how important it is to maintain hope and look to the future, even when it seems out of reach. One mantra that helped her through these tough times was "live life as if everything is rigged in your favour", by Rumi. This perspective allowed her to find strength and maintain a positive outlook despite the adversity she faced. 

Taking control and finding positivity

In the overwhelming environment of hospital isolation during her cancer treatment, Lauren found that proactivity was key to taking control. She looked for small ways to find positivity in her day, such as intentionally curating a positive and inspiring space. Visualisation of the future became a powerful tool, helping her to stay focused on recovery.

Despite losing freedom and independence, Lauren realised that she still had control over her mind. Building mental resilience and using positive affirmations can be crucial in protecting your mental health. Lauren's tip was to keep a daily diary to record experiences and emotions, providing a private space that is entirely your own, no matter what is going on outside. 

Top tips for resilience and wellness

  1. Search for and embrace simple pleasures: Enjoy warm cups of tea, good books, or gentle walks in nature. These small acts of joy can bring immense comfort and a sense of normalcy. 
  2. Embrace stillness: Use moments of stillness as a gift to reflect on your goals and values. The answers might surprise you and become a launchpad for future ideas.
  3. Create an inspiring environment: Surround yourself with things that inspire and empower you. Your surroundings can shape your future reality.
  4. Positive perspective: A great mantra to find perspective in difficult times is "live life as if everything is rigged in your favour".
  5. Mindful skincare: Choose skincare that genuinely cares for your skin. Incorporate it into a daily ritual to connect with your skin and feel grounded.
