Product FAQs

BY SARAH LONDON - Product FAQs - Natural and organic skincare with full ingredient list on front label

Are all your ingredients natural and/or organic?

Yes, our cold-pressed, plant-based ingredients are 100% organic and certified by The Soil Association. Vitamin E cannot be obtained via organic farming methods, but is 100% natural, GM-free and derives from the soy bean. The mineral salts and clays we use are natural ingredients that are sustainably sourced from around the world.

How do I know if a product is truly organic?

According to The Soil Association, for a product to be labelled as "organic" and certified as Cosmos Organic (a worldwide standard), at least 95% of its ingredients must be organic; i.e., these are ingredients that are grown without the use of GM ingredients, no parabens or phthalates and no synthetic colours, dyes or fragrances. The product must also only contain sustainably-sourced ingredients and never have been tested on animals. We clearly detail the percentage of organic ingredients in our products on the product pages of our website, so you can see exactly how organic each product is.

What are the key benefits of organic skincare?

Our mission and passion is creating highly effective, beautiful skincare and we do this using the very highest-quality, organic, plant-based ingredients. There are so many benefits, but here are our top three:

      1. Richer nutrients for your skin - organic farming ensures the quality of every ingredient grown is never compromised, helping to preserve all its nutrients

      2. Kinder to the planet - organic farming prohibits the use of synthetic pesticides, artificial chemical fertilisers, herbicides and GM crops, protecting the soil, respecting animal welfare and minimising pollution

      3. Supports the organic farming community - who are working hard to protect our future generations by minimising our exposure to agricultural and industrial chemicals

I have oily skin, can I use your Organic Facial Oil?

Yes! Think of our Organic Facial Oil as a superfood salad for your skin - packed full of essential fatty acids, proteins, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. There’s a common misconception that using a facial oil will cause your skin to become too oily and lead to breakouts. In fact, using organic, plant-based oils can prevent breakouts and acne due to the balancing effect they have on the skin. It’s the synthetic products that strip your skin of its natural oils, causing it to produce even more oil and clog pores. Conversely, the small molecules of the organic oils contained in our Organic Facial Oil resemble our own skin cell structure, allowing the oils to be very easily absorbed by the skin. These oils signal to the sebum glands to slow down sebum production and in turn leave your skin more balanced.

Can I use the Organic Facial Oil as my daily moisturiser?

Yes, simply apply the Organic Facial Oil to damp skin after cleansing, using our Green Clay Cleansing Balm, in the morning and evening - the oil will hold on to that extra water on the skin to keep it hydrated. At BY SARAH, we tend not to like conventional moisturisers that are typically a combination of oil and water, as these require emulsifiers and preservatives to bind the ingredients and preserve the shelf-life - stripping the product of its purity and integrity.

        Are your products gluten-free?

Yes, our products do not contain any wheat or oat-derived ingredients.

Are your products suitable for vegans?

Yes, our Organic Facial OilOrganic Body Oil and Bath Salts are 100% vegan and registered with The Vegan Society. Our Organic Lip Balm and Green Clay Cleansing Balm are vegetarian as they contain beeswax, which is 100% organic, ethically-sourced and produced without harming animals in any way.

            Are your products cruelty-free?

We never, and never will, test on animals. We are certified cruelty free with Cruelty Free International - you'll spot the Leaping Bunny logo across our collection.

              Is your packaging recyclable?

We choose to package our products in glass bottles and jars that are recyclable and refillable, because we are committed to minimising our environmental footprint. The cardboard postal boxes and packing paper used to ship our orders can also be reused or recycled too.
